After RJD Chief Lalu Prasad’s MP daughter Misa Bharti ignored the summons issued by the Income Tax department, a penalty of Rs 10,000 has been imposed on her and new summons have been issued. It may be recalled that Bharti is undergoing investigation in the alleged Rs 1,000 crore land deals and tax evasion case. Bharti was asked to appear before the Income Tax department’s investigating officer (IO) today, but she failed to do the same. Taking action against Bharti for non-compliance of summons, the investigating officer has levied a penalty of Rs 10,000 on Bharti under section 131 of the Income Tax Act. The IO has also issued a show cause notice to her for non-compliance of summons.
As per the new summons issued against Bharti, she has been asked to appear before the IO on June 12. The Income Tax department has made it clear that the questions related to the case can only be answered by Bharti and not by any of her representative. Bharti has to appear in person before the IO on June 12 and she has also been asked to carry some financial documents with her. In the same case, Bharti’s husband Shailesh Kumar has also been asked to appear before the Income Tax department tomorrow. It remains to be seen if Kumar will attend the inquiry or not.
