Eleven persons including a Border Security Force (BSF) officer and seven women have suffered injuries due to heavy shelling by Pakistani Rangers at RS Pura Sector and Arnia Sector of Jammu in the late hours of Tuesday and early hours of Wednesday.
Security forces have shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
“Shelling opened up in Sai Kalan and Arnia,” said Simardeep Singh, Jammu deputy commissioner.
Another BSF officer told the media that seven women injured in the heavy shelling are from the same family. All the injured have been shifted to hospital for medical attention.
The injured BSF officer has been identified as assistant sub inspector, AK Upadhyaya. While the other injured have been identified as Shakshi, Manju Choudhary, Veena, Soma Devi, Kamlesh Kumari, Sanjana and Ratno Devi of Suchetgarh village.
BSF Jammu frontier deputy inspector general, Dharmender Pareekh said, “ Exchange of fire mainly took place in RS Pura Sector.”
Deputy Commissioner told the media that there was no human casualties as people were inside their houses but several cattle have been reported dead and injured in the continuous shelling from Pakistani Ranger.
According to a local scribe the Pakistani Rangers have been continuously shelling on the Indian side with mortars and heavy machines.
