12-year-old boy survives second leopard attack on outskirts of Mumbai forest this month

A 12-year-old boy, Aniket Paghe, was attacked by a full-grown leopard here today, but escaped with scars on his head and left thigh.

Aniket lost his grandmother to a leopard attack around five years ago.

He was walking home when he was attacked by the feline at around 4:30 pm.

But he managed to extricate himself from its clutches and run back to safety.

This is the second attack in two weeks.

Last week, a two-year-old boy was killed by a leopard in Aarey area, close to Goregaon’s Film City.

There were other attacks on May 29 and 21, and March 17.

Forest officials laid camera traps around the sites where these incidents took place.

They now feel the same animal was behind all the attacks, and have placed two cages in the Film City area.

“With the camera traps we will be able to detect the movement of the leopard, and we will be able to recognise the animal,” Range Forest Officer Santosh Kank said.
