Today some 17 people died and 62 got injured after a truck transporting them to a church service upturned after drumming a concrete railing in Meghalaya’s West Khasi Hills district. The event happened around 8.30 AM at Nongspung village which is about 11 km away from the district headquarters Nongstoin.
Superintendent of Police of West Khasi Hills Sylvester Nongtnger told that truck upturned after drumming the railing at the side of the road due to over speeding, on spot 12 people died though 5 died because of their severer injuries at the Nongstoin Civil Hospital.
Seriously injured people were taken to different hospitals. Meghalaya Health Minister Roshan Warjri visited to the city hospital and saw the injured people.
