2,000 allegations of sexual abuse against UN peacekeepers in 12 years – Associated Press

In a shocking revelation in an investigation conducted by Associated Press, around 2,000 allegations of sexual abuse and misconducts have been uncovered.

This is not that much surprising as UN’s top officers have a history of involvement in sexual exploitation.
The Associated Press has collected data from an internal UN reports and testimony from victims. The investigation report claims that around 2,000 allegations of sexual exploitation have been levelled against UN peacekeepers worldwide in the last 12 years.

The investigation also uncovered around 300 sexual abuse cases involving children.

In an another shocker, UN field mission in Haiti operated a a sex ring between 2004 and 2007. The report has claimed that 134 Sri Lankan peacekeepers operated in Haiti during 2004 and 2007 and were involved in running that sex racket.

The report has claimed that peacekeepers from Bangladesh, Brazil, Jordan, Nigeria, Pakistan and Uruguay are involved in abuse cases.

The report also claimed that many sexual misconducted took place in UN branded trucks.
