New Delhi, Sep 12 (IANS) More than 20,000 kg of plastic carry bags of less than 50 microns have been seized by various agencies in the national capital following the ban, a government statement said on Tuesday.

On August 10, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had ordered a complete ban on use of plastic carry bags of less than 50 microns in Delhi.

The information was revealed in a meeting convened by Environment Minister Imran Hussain with senior officers from Environment Department and Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) on Tuesday.

Also 1,108 challans have been issued and Rs 17.3 lakh has been collected as environment compensation.

Hussain said that coordinated efforts should be taken by various agencies charged with the responsibility to implement the ban.

He also asked officers to sensitize the public as well as students on ill effects of bursting fire crackers ahead of Diwali.

The Minister also reviewed the status of strengthening of Ambient Air Monitoring Network.

DPCC informed Hussain that installation of 20 Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations are in advance stage and are likely to be completed by October 2017.

These stations will provide online data in public domain on a real time basis.
