A fidayeen terror attack took place in Jammu & Kashmir today, in which 2 CRPF soldiers and a Jammu and Kashmir policeman have been killed. The security forces managed to eliminate one militant. The fidayeen attack occurred when militants stormed the district police lines in Pulwama in South Kashmir today. Several security personnel are also reported to be injured in the attack. According to updates provided by the Union home ministry, two special police officers (SPOs) are still trapped in the building that was attacked by the militants. The two CRPF soldiers who were killed are head constable Ravindra Baban Dhanawade of Maharashtra and constable Jaswant Singh of Haryana.
After the attack, there were speculations that the militants have taken hostages. However, security officials said that there is no hostage situation, as the families in the building were evaluated while the operation was being conducted. Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the attack. The gunfight is still continuing between militants and security forces. At present, the total number of militants is not clear, and it would be confirmed after the terrorists have been killed. A top-level meeting was organized to review the situation, which was attended by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Union home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and others.
