Newspatrolling: At least 30 children have been reported dead within 48 hours at a major hospital in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. The horrifying deaths occurred at BRD medical college, which is the largest government hospital in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. Reports indicate that the children died due to a cut in oxygen supply. Sources said that the contract for the supply of oxygen was given to a third party. The firm contracted to supply the oxygen had stopped the service, as its dues had not been paid by the hospital. The firm alleged that it has outstanding dues of around Rs 60 lakhs against the hospital. Most of the deaths of children have occurred at the neonatal and encephalitis wards. The authorities have already ordered a high-level magisterial probe in the incident.
The incident assumes significance since Gorakhpur is the constituency of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. As a matter of fact, Adityanath had visited the hospital recently and reviewed the facilities and services at the hospital. Deaths of children due to non-payment of dues is a really sad thing to occur and the people involved should be punished. However, the doctors at the hospital said that the deaths have not occurred due to lack of oxygen. The doctors said that they had already made alternative arrangements for oxygen when the crisis began. The truth will be revealed when investigations are completed in the case.
