53 government schools have submitted to the Delhi government a list of liquor shops in the vicinity , days after the AAP dispensation had announced that such outlets will be closed.
Deputy CM Manish Sisodia who is also education minister said that the government was now waiting for private schools to submit list to initiate action.
“53 schools have submitted the list of liquor shops in their proximity these are all government schools “, he said.
Sisodia said the list has given to excise department and they are beginning inspection in these schools.
Earlier Sisodia had announced that liquor shops which are in proximity of schools and create a nuisance will be closed.
The announcement was made against the backdrop of increased concerns over students safety in schools, following the killing of seven year old boy in Gurgaon school and alleged rape of a five year old girl by school peon in Delhi.
The Delhi government had asked school principal to send a list of liquor shops located close to their campuses.
As per rules liquor shops cannot function within 100 metres of schools.
“Action will be taken even if the liquor shop is situated beyond the 100-metre limit but the school feels it is troublesome,” Sisodia said.
