At 5:20 am in the morning, the Ajmer Sealdah express got derailed about 70 km from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The accident happened in the thick early morning fog when two coaches of the train got derailed while crossing a bridge that was over a dry canal. Two of the trains coaches plunged into the dry canal bed below.
The cause of the accident is not yet known, but over 15 coaches of the train got derailed. A medical team was dispatched from and they are currently treating the injured. Over 40 people were seriously injured and about 8 injured passengers are in a critical condition. Two passengers have tragically lost their lives in the accident.
Mr. Suresh Prabhu, has assured people that the rescue and relief operations are currently underway and the actual cause of the accident shall be ascertained. This is a matter of great concern for the Indian Railways as this is the second accident in last one months in the same region. The last accident happened on the 20th November, when over 150 passengers lost their lives and over 200 seriously injured when the Indore Patna express was derailed.
