Two separate surveys have revealed that most people are happy with the government’s decision to link PAN with Aadhaar; however, they also seem to be concerned about their personal data getting leaked and misused. One of these surveys was conducted by online citizen engagement platform LocalCircles. In this survey, the total participation was 10,729 citizens, who provided their inputs. This survey was primarily focused on learning if the people of the country are worried about their Aadhaar details getting leaked. Almost two-third of the respondents said that they were concerned about their personal details being leaked. One-fourth of the respondents said that they were not concerned, whereas the remaining did not express their opinion.
In the second survey, 9,847 people were requested to provide their feedback on how they feel about the linking of PAN with Aadhaar. 70% of respondents said that they supported the government’s move to link PAN with Aadhaar. 27% voted against the move, whereas 3% did not express their opinion. The two surveys indicate that most people support the linking of PAN with Aadhaar, but concerns about data leak remain. It may be recalled that the linking of PAN with Aadhaar has been made mandatory as per the Finance Act, 2017.
