The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organized a ‘Tiranga march’ in Delhi University’s North Campus to protest against students who are allegedly supporting anti-national activities. The ABVP is the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). In the protest, ABVP members unfolded a large tricolor and marched with it from Ramjas College to the Arts Faculty. Patriotic slogans were raised all throughout the protest march.
Some of the members in the protest said that they were very disturbed with anti-India slogans raised by All India Students Association (AISA). They said that such incidents are rising in the country and need to be stopped. Talking about their protest, they said that it was a way to tell the people of the country that anti-national voices will not be tolerated. The protest was also to ensure that anti-national sloganeering that occurred earlier in JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University), is not repeated in Ramjas College.
The ‘Tiranga march’ by ABVP comes after last week’s clashes between students at Ramjas College. The clash at Ramjas College was due to an invite sent to JNU students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid. The duo was asked to address a seminar on ‘Culture of Protests’. However, it was cancelled after protests by ABVP.
