In a development that highlights the predicament of whistle blowers in the country, the AIADMK said today that the party will take legal action against D Roopa if she does not withdraw the charges made against party general secretary V K Sasikala. It may be recalled that D Roopa was DIG (Prisons) when she had revealed that party general secretary V K Sasikala was being given special treatment in prison, something that was against the law. D Roopa was later transferred form her post, but she continues to stand by what she had said earlier. Sasikala is currently being held at Parappana Agrahara central prison in Bengaluru.
The talk about taking legal action was mentioned in AIADMK mouthpiece ‘Namadhu Dr MGR’. The AIADMK mouthpiece said that various services and amenities are legally available to convicts and Sasikala did not break any rules. The mouthpiece said that prisoners can cook their food, wear their own clothes, use their own mattress, buy their own fruits and biscuits, read books and magazines, etc. “While this is the real status, former Karnataka Prison DIG Roopa is making allegations. There is not even an iota of truth in any of her charges and she has not released any evidence for the same,” the mouthpiece said. “It is obvious that Chinnamma is fully following all prison rules and she was not provided any special treatment, flouting laws.”
