The renowned medical facility of India, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have suspended five doctors because of their alleged negligence during a nurse’s delivery.
Three senior and two junior doctors were suspended by the AIIMS administration as the union of nurses protested against the doctors.
The family of the nurse, Rajbir Kaur claimed that doctors delayed the emergency cesarean (c) section of 28 year old. Rajbir was admitted to AIIMS on January 16 and she was ventilator support for last three weeks.
The family claims that anesthetist was late which caused delay in the emergency c-section. Rajbir suffered a massive cardiac arrest during the surgery which led to her slipping into coma.
Harish Kumar Kajla, President of AIIMS nursing union alleged that Rajbir was given excessive medication for labour inducement which led to serious complications in her body.
The AIIMS administration has suspended three senior resident from obstetrics & gynaecology department and two junior resident doctors from anesthesia department with immediate effect pending inquiry.
The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) has staged a protest against the harsh decision of suspensions and threatened to go on strike.
Earlier, around 500 nursing officers of AIIMS protested outside the AIIMS director’s office claiming medical negligence and demanded strong action against doctors.
