Akhilesh suspends police officers for lathi-charging people in bank-queue
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister suspended a superintendent of police rank officer and another junior officer a day after a video showing UP police jawans lathi-charging at people in queue to withdraw money on Tuesday.
Yadav instructed the state police and others engaged in security and maintaining law order to behave sympathetically with people visiting banks to withdraw money.
“The state government is with the people facing problems in the wake of demonetisation, and will provide all help possible,” Akhilesh said in a statement.
Instructing District Magistrates and Police Superintendents to deal with all sections of society with a sympathetic and sensitive attitude, the chief minister warned respective district administrations that those found responsible for inappropriate behaviour with people will face stern action.
The chief minister also the DMs to ensure that farmers do not face any problem in procuring seeds, fertilisers and other goods since rabi sowing is currently on.
The suspended officers are Superintendent of Police Ram Kishore and SHO Sanjay Kumar Yadav.
The suspension orders were given by the CM after a video of a policeman lathi-charging people standing at the bank in Kishnupur area went viral on social media with local channels also airing it.
