As a contingency plan in case the Election Commission of India (ECI) does not allot the SP symbol of the cycle to the Akhilesh Yadav faction, or if the symbol is frozen altogether Akhilesh Yadav plans to contest elections from the Samajwadi Janata Party – Rashtriya (SJPR). The party with the tree as its symbol was founded by former PM Chandra Shekhar and former CM of Haryana Devi Lal. Kamal Morarka, who is currently the President of the SJPR has approached UP CM Akhilesh Yadav with the proposal of his candidates contesting on the symbol of the tree.
This is believed to be an option of the last resort and may or may not be done by the CM. Former PM Chandra Shekhar son neeraj Shekhar is a Rajya Sabha MP of the SP and is a staunch supporter of Akhilesh, hence it may not be too far fetched a thing for Akhilesh to consider. There is however, one major bone of contention – once Akhilesh contests from another existing party, he may lose all claim to the SP party and its symbol. This may actually result in Akhilesh losing all that he is fighting for.
A fight within the party is one thing and moving to another party is an altogether different thing. How many people will support and move with Akhilesh in that case is a very big question.
