After a prolonged legal battle and various theories and controversies, justice has finally been delivered in the sensational murder of Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj in 2008. The Allahabad High Court today acquitted Aarushi’s parents, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, who had been among the accused in the case. The court gave the parents the benefit of doubt and acquitted them. The court said the evidence currently available is not sufficient to hold the parents guilty. This comes as a huge relief to the parents, as they were earlier convicted by a CBI court for their involvement in the murder of their 14-year old daughter Aarushi. The CBI court had announced life imprisonment for the Talwars in 2013. However, the same has now been dismissed by the Allahabad High Court.
The High Court announced its decision today in a packed court room. However, the fact that the court has given the Talwars the benefit of doubt and not a clean acquittal, it clearly shows that the case was not properly investigated. It also shows that the case would continue to be a mystery and we might never know what actually happened that night. The CBI has said that it will examine the court order in detail and decide the next steps. At present, it is not known whether the CBI will take the matter to the Supreme Court. The Talwars are currently in Ghaziabad’s Dasna prison and they appeared quite happy after the High Court announced its decision. The Talwars are most likely to be released from the jail on Friday.
