Ashish Nanda, Director in IIM-Ahmedabad has stepped down from his position citing personal reasons. He will step down on 1st September 2017 whereas his actual tenure ends on 1 September 2018. He is the first international faculty director of IIM-A.
In his resignation letter to IIM-A Board of Governors (BoG) Chairman & Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, Mr Nanda pointed out that the distance between him and his family, affecting his work and personal life as the reason.
Nanda was a Robert Braucher Professor of Practice at Harvard Law School initially and leter joined Harvard Business School faculty member. He took over the reins of IIM-A on 2nd September, 2013.
Mr Birla replied to the resignation letter stating , “I have received your resignation dated 26/4/2017. We have had a conversation about this for the past couple of weeks, and I fully understand your need to be with family and the inconvenience that the separation is causing you.”
IIM-A revised curriculum for programs, increasing the student diversity, enhancing research and case studies and campus building restoration and expansion during Nanda’s leadership.
Nanda is an electrical engineer from IIT Delhi and did his Masters and PhD in economics from Harvard. He also has a post graduate diploma in management from IIM-A.
