Over 39 people died and 40 were seriously injured and 4 critical after revelers were attacked a nightclub in Turkey a little after midnight on the first day of the new year. The ISIS is suspected to be behind these attacks.
The shooting took place in a nightclub called Reina in Istanbul’s Ortakoy area at about 1:30 am. The popular nightclub is extremely popular amongst locals and foreigners and is located on the banks of the Bosphorus. The attacker is yet to be captured and a manhunt is on the way for the same. Of all the people who were attacked, 16 were believed to be foreigners.
The Governor of Istanbul Vasip Sahin said the attacker first killed a policeman and a civilian before entering the nightclub. Reina was said to have about 700 people at the time of the attack. Most of the people at the nightclub jumped into the water to escape the attack. The Turkish security agencies have declared a media blackout on the attack.
The attacker was believed to be in the costume of a Santa Claus at the time of the attack. This helped him evade suspicion easily. The Turkish authorities believed that there was only one gunman involved.
