Away from Nevada’s glittering casinos, religions joining to ring in New Year with prayers

In a remarkable interfaith gesture, various religions are getting together in Reno (Nevada) to celebrate the ringing in of the New Year in a unique and divine manner, away from the glitter of the casinos.

Coordinated by distinguished religious statesman Rajan Zed, “Multi-faith New Years’ Eve Service” hosted by Reno Buddhist Center will include prayers by Christian (various denominations), Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish and Native American clergy.

Prayers are a more appropriate way to welcome the New Year to our lives than gambling and drinking in the casinos and bars, Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, points out.

There is no “cover charge” for this Service, which starts on December 31 at 10-30 pm and ends at midnight. All are welcome.
