In a major boost to the Congress party, senior leader of Telegu Desam Party (TDP) Revanth Reddy has joined the Congress party. The formal induction of Reddy into the Congress party was done in the presence of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. Reddy had earlier quit the TDP and it was being speculated that he might join the Congress. Now, those speculations have come true, as Reddy has formally been inducted into the Congress. Rahul Gandhi looked ecstatic and there was a glimmer in his eyes that revealed a lot to what he may be experiencing. Reddy was considered the number two in TDP, as he had taken the responsibility of the working president of TDP. He was also assigned the task of the floor leader of the Telangana Assembly. What is even a bigger setback for TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu is that Reddy has joined the Congress with 40 other TDP members and seven members of Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS).
Some of the prominent politicians who have joined Congress include Narender Reddy, former MLA and party general secretary, and Boda Janardhan, a senior leader and former minister. The other leaders who have Joined Congress are Danasari Anasuya, ex-MLA and politburo member; Raja Ram Yadav, state spokesperson; Medipally Sathyam, official spokesperson; Soyam Bapu Rao, former MLA; Satish Madiga, official spokesperson; Kathera Gangadhar, ex-MLA and former MLA Vijayaramana. The development will create various challenges for the TDP in Telangana and it would impact the party’s performance in the Lok Sabha elections scheduled in 2019.
