Bangladesh pulls a stunner against New Zealand in Champions Trophy

New Zealand faced a shocking defeat against the Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy 2017. Having opted to bat first New Zealand scored 265 runs or the loss of 8 wickets in the designated 50 overs. The top order batsmen scored consistently except for Luke Ronchi who was dismissed cheaply for 16. The first wicket partnership was then worth 46 runs.

Martin Guptill fell when the score was 69. He scored 33 and was out for a lbw by Rubel Hossain. The fourth wicket partnership between Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor added 83 runs before Kane Williamson got out and the score of the team by then was 152 in 30 overs. Another 49 runs was added by the Ross Taylor and Neil Broom partnership before Ross Taylor fell for 63. After this, New Zealand never recovered and lost wickets at regular intervals without adding much to the run rate an the scorecard. The much expected batsman Corey Anderson, got out for a duck. In the designated 50 overs, the team managed to score 265 runs.

For Bangladesh, Mosaddek Hossain took 3 wickets, Taskin Ahmed 2 wickets, Mutafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain claimed 1 wicket each.

Bangladesh was in for a shocker when the began their innings by losing the first wicket when the score was just 0. Tamim Iqbal got out. Sabir Rahman and Soumya Sarkar too got out in single digits an the team’s score was 12 by then. Mushfiqur Rahim got out when the score reached 33. Everyone thought that New Zealand would win the match comfortably before Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmadullah came to the crease. They both played slowly and sensibly and scored a ton each. The pair stitched a 224 runs partnership between themselves and when Shakib Al Hasan got out, Bangladesh has already reached a comfortable 257. It pulled the victory without losing any further wickets in 47.2 overs. Shakib scored 114 runs whereas Mahmadullah stood not out with 102.

For New Zealand, Tim Southee claimed 3 wickets.
