Pune, December 11, 2014: Bank of Maharashtra has arranged a campaign during December 2014, for opening of accounts of uncovered families under the PMJDY. Under the ambitious mission of PMJDY which was launched by the Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi, every household, preferably women member of the family shall have a Bank account by 26.01.2015. The mission aims at bringing into the mainstream of Banking and Finance, the hitherto excluded class.
Shri. R.K. Gupta, Executive Director informed that during the campaign, Bank will be focussing upon opening Bank accounts of uncovered families and issuing RuPay debit cards to all the accountholders besides creating awareness among the accountholders about usage, safety and benefits of RuPay debit card.
Bank has completed the survey of households in allotted Urban wards & Rural Sub Service areas and are now focussing upon opening of accounts of 3.61 lakh identified uncovered families. The Bank has engaged 3552 Business Correspondent Agents in 3048 allotted SSAs and has opened 13.61 lakh BSBD accounts under PMJDY during the period from 15.08.2014. Out of these 13.61 lakh BSBD accounts, 9.24 lakh accounts are opened in rural areas and 4.37 lakh accounts are opened in urban areas. The Bank has also mobilised deposits of Rs. 68.46 crore in these BSBD accounts. The Bank has so far issued 8.97 lakh RuPay debit cards.
The progress of implementation of PMJDY is being regularly reviewed by senior officials of the Bank and the field functionaries have been making sincere efforts for covering all the households in the allotted SSAs and wards even before 24.12.2014. We are also arranging camps on every Saturday and Mega Camps on last Saturday of every month for opening of accounts of uncovered families. The Bank has been creating awareness amongst the accountholders through SMS and phone calls as regards benefits of having Aadhaar number and seeding the same to the accounts. The percentage of Aadhaar seeded BSBD accounts to total BSBD accounts is around 65%. The Bank is ready for implementation of revised DBTL (LPG Gas Subsidy) scheme and payment of wages to MGNREGS beneficiaries.
“Being the SLBC convener, the Bank is handling grievances of the PMJDY customers through exclusive toll free number 18001022636. Financial literacy material has been prepared in vernacular language and supplied to all banks in the state for using the same during financial literacy camps.” Shri. Gupta said.
