PIO Vivek Murthy who was appointed as Surgeon General of USA during the Barack Obama regime on December 2014 has been dismissed by the Donald Trump led government. Mr Murthy was asked to resign. An official statement said that he would continue to serve as a member of the Commissioned Corps.
Murthy, 39, has been replaced by his deputy, Rear Admiral Sylvia Trent-Adams, one of the first nurses to serve as surgeon general. Murthy was the first Indian American to hold the post and was the 19th Surgeon General and was the Youngest one to hold this post.
The employees of Department of Health and Human Services privately expressed their surprise at his sudden departure.
Murthy was born in Huddersfield, England and the family relocated to Miami, Florida when he was three years old. He received an MD from the Yale School of Medicine and an MBA in Health Care Management from the Yale School of Management.
The dismissal comes after the first incident where US Attorney General Preet Bharara who was known for exposing famous scandals was fired after he refused to resign.
