After communal clashes broke out in Basirhat in West Bengal over an objectionable Facebook post, the situation continues to be tense in the area. The police have imposed Section-144 in many places in the area. Blockades could also be seen at many places in Basirhat. Paramilitary forces are yet to establish law and order in the area. The villages in Basirhat where the conflict arose used to buzz with activity earlier, but after the violence, these villages wear a deserted look. And as the situation remains tense in the area, a political blame game has started with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee blaming BJP for inciting violence. Banerjee also blamed the Governor for being hand in glove with the BJP.
Meanwhile, BJP has also hit back by blaming Mamta Banerjee and her party’s support to fundamentalists. Speaking about the situation in Basirhat, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh said, “The TMC directly or indirectly supports fundamentalists. That’s why so many SIMI suspects are arrested from Bengal. Basirhat situation has also erupted because of Mamata’s appeasement policy.” Even as blame game continues, scores of people have fled their homes and many are living in constant fear.
