In another incident of violence related to ban on cattle sale for slaughter, an IIT student in Chennai was thrashed for organizing a beef fest. A group of students at IIT-Madras (Indian Institute of Technology) decided to protest against the center’s ban on sale of cattle for slaughter and towards this, they organized a beef fest. Around 80 students participated in the beef fest, wherein they ate beef in order to protest against the center’s ban. However later, IIT student Sooraj R, the main organizer of the beef fest, was thrashed today for organizing the beef fest. He has been admitted to hospital for eye injuries. The student’s thrashing came at roundabout the same time when the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court suspended the center’s ban for four weeks.
Meanwhile in other related news, Mumbai police today seized around 900 kg of suspected beef from Santacruz area. The suspected beef was being transported in a mini-tempo, when it was intercepted by the police on the Western Express Highway. The intel regarding the beef consignment was given to the police by members of the Hindu Seva Sangh. Samples of the seized meat have been taken by the FSL (Forensic Science Lab) team and the reports will be finalized in the next two days. The police said that they will file an FIR after getting the FSL report.
