The winters can really be challenging when it comes to staying healthy and many of us find it really difficult to cope up with the colds and flu’s that are associated with this season. Also it is the time for holidays which makes it more difficult for us to stay healthy and maintain weight. We have always been advised to focus on our diets and nutritional aspects to stay healthy during the cold months, but there is another aspect to it. Apart from eating healthy it is important that we drink healthy also for enhanced immunity and health and overcome the winter blues.
It is a common perception that that the winter months are made for drinking mugs full of hot chocolate and other hot sweet drinks, but these aren’t always good for your health. Here are some healthy alternatives for your favorite drinks, which will make you feel good for sure, and also will leave you less heavy. Try some of these warm winter drinks to keep you toasty and without packing calories and warm off cold and flu’s.
- The Golden Milk: this beautiful golden colored drink is not only smooth and creamy but is also warm and loaded with health. This winter drink is a perfect mix of cashew nut milk, turmeric, grated ginger, coconut oil and honey boiled together and strained to drink. It has countless healthy benefits – anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, liver detoxifier and has potent anti-cancer properties. It also improves brain function, lowers triglycerides, promotes digestive health, helps regulate metabolism and strengthens the immune system. A perfect warn drink to be enjoyed before bed.
- Lemon Ginger Tea: is a great immune booster. It helps fighting colds, keeping healthy and provides relief from sore throat. Can be consumed hot or cold, lemon ginger tea is great for nausea, improves and aids in the absorption of essential nutrients in the body and fights cancer. Layers of peeled ginger and lemons are allowed to settle in a jar of water (warm or cold) for several hours in open or in a refrigerator. Can be stored and drunk atleast twice a day for better affects.
- Cinnamon and Apple Cider Vinegar Tea: this highly detoxifying drink can be enjoyed hot or cold. Apple cider if great for detoxification, digestion, sore throat, bad breadth and helps losing weight. Cinnamon is known for its capabilities of lower blood cholesterol levels, managing blood sugar, keeping the arteries healthy and fighting cancer. A simple to make drink with mixing cinnamon, apple cider vinegar and maple syrup with a generous squeeze of lemon juice. Some cayenne pepper can be added to make it a little hotter.
- Easy Homemade Chai with Almond Milk: a very simple chai that we all enjoy at home with almond milk instead of whole. Using almond milk means you save a lot on the piles of calories that you get from whole milk and also the thickness of almond milk makes your cup of chai taste richer. Bring all the ingredients to boil – water, almond milk and spices (pepper corn, cloves, cinnamon and ginger). Pour in a cup, add honey (to taste) and tea bags and enjoy.
