Japanese companies in India usually has a Japanese heads. For the first time ever, Hitachi has appointed Bharat Kaushal to head its Indian operations in the capacity of M.D. Only few companies like Panasonic, Daikin, Nissan has Indian heads.
Bharat Kaushal is an alumnus of St.Stephens College and did his Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University in 1996-98 and an MBA from Northeastern University, Boston.
Kojin Nakakita, who is the MD currently will be elevated as chairman of Hitachi India and Hitachi Asia. Kaushal is chairman in India of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), a Japanese multinational banking and financial services entity Even in SMBC, he was the first non-Jpanese to hold the post of CEO when he was appointed to the post back in 2012.
Kaushal is also a member of the Indo-Japan Task Force which is been set up by the Indian and Japanese governments to boost two-way business. He is also the convenor of the Financial Strategy Group to address policy and operational concerns of Japanese government apart from the private sector institutions pursuing business opportunities in India. He is a strategy advisor to the India Investment Center of the department of economic affairs of the government. His another distinguished post is that he is the part of the Economic Policy Unit of the World Bank in Washington DC.
