True to speculations that were being floated in recent times, one of the most senior Congress leaders SM Krishna has formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It may be recalled that Krishna had earlier resigned from the Congress party and had declared that he is quitting from active politics. However, there were speculations that he might join the BJP, something that has come true now. The program for Krishna’s formal induction in BJP was held at the party’s headquarters in Delhi. It marked the presence of several key BJP leaders including Amit Shah.
During the event, SM Krishna described the move as an important step in his career. He said that he has taken the decision to join the BJP because the Congress no longer needs him. He also talked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, saying that their leadership has helped the country’s development. Political pundits said that Krishna’s move could engineer large scale defections from the Congress party in Karnataka. For BJP, it’s another great win, since Krishna’s entry into BJP will help the party to gain a foothold in the south.
