The Congress unit in Bihar was disturbed as soon as the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) broke, with Nitish Kumar ditching the alliance and joining forces with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Now, there are quite clear signs that the Congress unit in Bihar is headed for a split. And the one being held responsible for engineering the split is none other than Ashok Choudhary, who is the Bihar Congress chief. Top Congress leaders such as Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi are convinced that it is Choudhary who has engineered the split in the Bihar Congress unit. However, the inaction on part of Congress top leadership is bugging Choudhary. Not able to bear the suspense, Choudhary has himself requested the Congress party to sack him.
Choudhary said that he had met Rahulji twice and discussed the issue with him. Earlier, the Congress party had not liked Choudhary’s suggestion that Congress should break ties with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) since its chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members were facing charges of various scams. The Congress had even reprimanded Choudhary for making such a suggestion. Choudhary received another setback when he was not invited to Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with the party’s lawmakers. Choudhary said that the Congress party did not take any action even when it was clear that the mahagathbandhan was breaking. However, he ruled out the possibility of joining hands with Nitish Kumar.
