Revealing its cards, BJP today announced its chef ministerial candidate for Himachal Pradesh. The chief ministerial candidate announced by BJP is Prem Kumar Dhumal, who had earlier also served as the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh. The announcement was made today by BJP president Amit Shah and it has put to rest all speculations regarding BJP’s chief ministerial candidate in Himachal Pradesh. Shah said that Dhumal will guide the party in the assembly elections that will be held in a single phase on November 9. The results will be declared on December 18. Shah also said that Dhumal may currently be the ex-CM, but after the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh, he will be the new CM. This statement shows Shah’s confidence in winning the battle of Himachal Pradesh. The contest in Himachal Pradesh is primarily between BJP and Congress.
Earlier, some other names were also being speculated in the media and one of them was Union minister JP Nadda. However, due to the immense popularity of Dhumal among the masses, it appears that BJP decided in his favor. The current Congress government in Himachal Pradesh is facing anti-incumbency factor and it may be difficult for them to retain power in the state. Pre-poll surveys have also indicated that the BJP might win in Himachal Pradesh. With opposition parties criticizing every move of the BJP government, the party needs some good wins to reestablish confidence among the masses. Winning Himachal Pradesh will also be crucial for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
