After striking success in Goa, the BJP has managed to come up with another winning formula in Manipur. The State’s Governor Najma Heptullah has invited the BJP to form the government in Manipur. The invitation to form the government in Manipur comes after a delegation led by BJP met the Governor on Sunday and staked claim to form the government. The BJP had won 21 seats and it has managed to get more MLAs to join the alliance. The outsiders who joined the alliance include 4 NPP MLAs, one LJP and TMC MLA and a Congress MLA. BJP’s N Biren Singh has been unanimously chosen as the leader of the BJP legislature party in Manipur. He will take oath as the chief minister of Manipur tomorrow.
It may be recalled that the Congress had won the most number of seats in Manipur. It had won 28 seats, but it failed to reach the target of 31, which is required to form the government in Manipur. Earlier, everyone was thinking that Congress will again come to power in Manipur, led by Ibobi Singh, who has served as the chief minister for 15 years. However, the BJP moved fast to stitch up an alliance and now it has the support of 32 MLAs, one more than the target of 31.
