The Paschim Banga BJP Vice President Joyprakash Majumdar was arrested by the Bidhannagar City Police on for fraud and cheating. Mr. Majumdar has said that the charges are false and baseless and a part of a conspiracy to tarnish his good name and reputation.
Mr. Arup Roy, who is the convenor of the Chatra Shikshak Sangram Committee, filed the complaint against Mr. Majumdar about 6 months ago. Mr. Majumdar had collected Rs 7.2 lakhs from people who had applied for the Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET) and the School Service commission (SSC). He had taken the money promising action against the Paschim Banga State Government for not processing the TET and the SSC candidate list. He also promised the applicants the jobs. He did not file a case or get the jobs or return the money.
Mr. Majumdar was interrogated for more than 8 hours and then arrested by the Police authorities under sections of cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.
