Home Minister Rajnath Singh has met the NSG Director General Sudhir Pratap Singh and other top officials to get an up to date information on its functioning and also a quick review on their preparedness in case of an emergency.
The NSG commandos are popularly referred to “Black Cats” and the Home Minister was told that the training for the ‘Black Cat’ commandos was a continuous process besides being alert 24X7 to move swiftly to deal with any crisis or hostage-like situation.
The NSG was setup in 1984 as is providing security cover to the top politicians and businessmen across the country. The meeting was attended by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and other senior officials.
The NSG is modelled on the pattern of the SAS of the United Kingdom and GSG-9 of Germany and is deployed only on extreme situations with their headquarters in Delhi and the training centre outside the capital, on its outskirts.
The NSG was highly appreciated for eliminating the 10 terrorists who carry out terror attacks in Mumbai on November 26, 2008.
Central Government set up four hubs across the country in Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata to reduce the reaction time for NSG during the emergencies.
