The multiple World and Olympic Champion’s last run did not end well as expected. While Bolt was the favoured contestant to win the gold, the result was otherwise. It was Justin Gatlin who was earlier banned for using drugs(banned) regaining the supremacy after he had last won the Olympics Gold in 2004.
Bolt had a bad start and unlike in the other races where he has always recovered and won the titles, it proved a different story this time. Gatlin who lost the 2015 world final by a hundredth of a second to Bolt, on this occasion timed it perfectly and crossed the finish line in just 9.92 seconds.
Surprisingly, Christian Coleman of USA got the Silver by finishing the race in 9.94 seconds. Bolt who has got the World Record by running i 9.58 seconds some eight years back could not finish it better this time.
“It’s just one of those things. My start is killing me. Normally, it gets better during the rounds but it didn’t come together.” said Bolt.
“I tuned it out (the boos) through the rounds and stayed the course. I did what I had to do,” said the elated Gatlin who also said “It is Bolt’s last race. I have had many victories and many defeats down the years. It is an amazing occasion. We are rivals on the track but in the warm-down area we joke and have a good time. The first thing he did was congratulate me and say that I didn’t deserve the boos. He is an inspiration.”
