Britain has stunned USA to win the Gold Medal in the 4*100 metres relay in the World Athletics Championships. World Champion Usain Bolt who had earlier settled for a Bronze in 100 metres had to pull out from this race during the final leg as he was injured. When he collected the baton from the fellow runner, Jamaica which has won Gold 4 times earlier consecutively was struggling at No.3
When Bolt tried to race ahead of others, he tripped and fell and it seemed like he had suffered a hamstring injury. This has shocked the jam packed 60,000 audience who has come to witness the legend’s final run. On the other hand, the Gold Medal hopefuls tem USA with 100 metres Gold and Bronze medal winners Justin Gatlin and Christian Coleman were expected to win as they rain in their 2nd and 4th leg but ended up losing to the home team – Britain.
The British team led by Chijindu Ujah, Adam Gemili, Danny Talbot and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake had not only won the Gold for the team by completing the race in 37.47 seconds but had also broken the 18 year National record and also had won the first World Title.
“I wasn’t sure if I had won or not, I gave it my all but I could see Christian Coleman out of the corner of my eye,The feeling of euphoria was from infinity. I can’t register it. We smashed the British record to pieces.” said Mitchell-Blake.
Britain had won the medals in sprint only twice and that too in the 1912 and 2004 Olympics.
