A 28-year-old man stabbed his Facebook friend on their first meet with a broken bottle near at a bus top near Bharathipur University in Coimbatore on Wednesday after he his ‘proposal of love’ was denied by the victim.
The victim has been identified as 21-years-old Kangalakshmi, a MCA student of Bharathiar University.
Police said, the accused, 28-years-old Vemburaj, a native of Mukulathur in Ramanathpur employed in a construction firm in Cheenai and the victim came in contact with each other via Facebook almost around a year back.
Police officials investigating the case told the media that Vemburaj and the deceased had been talking to each other on the social media chat since then.
The officials added that the accused had informed the victim that he had completed his BE-Civil and was working as a civil engineer at L&T company in Chennai. Vemburaj has professed his love to the victim while chatting. The victim had always denied the proposal every time he confessed his feeling for her in the pretext of further studies.
“In the chats she had clearly mentioned that they can be good friends and she continued talking with her,” said a police officer investigating the case to the local media.
The officer added further that in the recent days the victim had started avoiding Vemburaj after he repeatedly persuaded her to be in a relationship.
The victim accepted to meet her near a bus stand near her college after regular coaxing by the accused.
On the day, the two met at the bus stand as planned after few minutes of conversation Vemburaj professed his love for her. On being denied bluntly he threatened of killing her if she denied marrying him.
On facing a denial for marriage, Vemburaj got frustrated he pick up a broken bottle and slit the girl’s neck and fled from the incident site.
The eyewitnesses of the incident informed the police about the incident who rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.
A search operation was launched by the police and nabbed Vemburaj from Ukkadam bus stand.
