State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched a new data plan that experts say challenges the current offerings by leading private telecom players such as Reliance Jio and Airtel. The new plan launched by BSNL is groundbreaking since it offers 2GB data per day at just Rs 339 a month. Speaking on the development, general manager of BSNL Sanjiv Tyagi said, “To compete with Jio and other private players, we have introduced the cheapest plan with a rental value of Rs 339 per month. Under this plan, the consumer will get 2GB per day.”
The new plan will become active from April 1. Apart from the 2GB data per day, subscribers will also get the facility of 25 minutes of free calling per day. Once this limit is breached, subscribers will be charged 25 paisa per minute. It may be recalled that increased competition from private players is making business tough for state-run enterprises such as BSNL and MTNL. To cut costs and boost revenues, talks are currently being held for a merger of BSNL and MTNL.
