Ahead of the launch of the bullet train project in India linking Mumbai and Ahmedabad, railways minister Piyush Goyal said that the bullet train project will act as a catalyst for modernizing the country’s outdated railway system. The planned completion timeline of the bullet train project is December 2023, but Goya is confident that railways would be able to complete the project by August 15, 2022, more than a year ahead of schedule. Goyal was speaking at a press conference and he said that the bullet train will create 4,000 direct jobs and 20,000 indirect jobs. Goyal praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that his role has been crucial in getting cheap loan from Japan for the bullet train project.
Goyal said that the bullet train will start a new revolution in the railways in India. He said that just like Maruti transformed the automotive sector in India, the bullet train will transform the railways in India. Most of the things would be manufactured as per the ‘Made in India’ initiative, which will enable the country to learn the technology and use it later to modernize the Indian railways. Talking about the bullet train, Goyal said that it would complete its journey between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in just around 2 hours. He said that the government will keep the ticket rates of the bullet trains affordable so that maximum number of people can benefit from it.
