Newspatrolling: Just before the cabinet reshuffle that is expected to take place tomorrow, uncertainly has gripped parties like AIADMK and JD(U) regarding their role in the new cabinet. The BJP-led NDA government is expected to carry out its third major cabinet reshuffle since it was elected to power in 2014. The NDA government wants to bring new faces to take new responsibilities and do away with those that may not have delivered as per expectations. NDA has its eyes on the forthcoming assembly elections in various states and the crucial 2019 Lok Sabha elections. It is likely that the government may also try to give roles to new allies who have joined NDA recently or are expected to join in the near future.
However, the role of AIADMK and JD(U) in the new cabinet is not certain yet. In case of AIADMK, the party’s internal troubles after the rebellion of TTV Dhinakaran, has put a question mark on its potential role in the new cabinet. Already, the opposition parties in Tamil Nadu are demanding a floor test in the house, which has fuelled even more uncertainly about AIADMK’s future. In case of JD(U), the party has still not been informed about their role in the new cabinet. Speaking about the matter, a senior JD(U) leader said, “Our MPs are in Delhi. There was never any issue in the party over participating in the government but there has been no communication to us even though the reshuffle is tomorrow.”
