It was an historic moment for California when its Governor Mr Jerry Brown has signed a bill guaranteeing USD15 as minimum wage. With this California becomes the second State after New York to be implementing this. Labour Unions celebrated the historic day but the Republicans and Business Groups were not seem to be happy. The sealing of the agreement has also averted an expensive November Ballot measure fight.
The wages will be implemented before 2022. This comes within hours of the same bill being passed by New York by its Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The current minimum wages in the New York and California is USD10 per hour. Mr Brown was quoted as sayng “Economically, minimum wages may not make sense.”
