The CBI has registered an FIR against its own former director Ranjit Sinha on Tuesday. Ranjit Sinha is accused of trying to influence the investigation in the coal scam. The CBI’s decision to investigate the role of former CBI chief Sinha was taken after the Supreme Court order. The Supreme Court, three months ago, had tasked special CBI Director ML Sharma to investigate the case. A three-member bench of the Supreme Court had said in January that after initial scrutiny, they agree with the argument that Ranjit Sinha had misused his position as CBI chief.
It may be recalled that Sinha was the CBI director from 2012 to 2014 and during this time he met the accused in the coal scam. Some politicians and businessmen were also involved in this. This meeting was held at Sinha’s official residence. In fact, the Supreme Court had directed the constitution of SIT to investigate Sinha on January 23 this year. M.L. Sharma committee formed by the Supreme Court had found Ranjit Sinha guilty in the investigation.
It was said in the report that it is possible from these interventions that Ranjit Sinha has tried to influence the investigation work. At present, various types of speculations are being made about the arrest of Ranjit Sinha after his FIR was lodged.
