In a development that shows the rot in the judiciary, the CBI today raided the residence of a retired High Court Judge. It has been alleged that the judge had arranged for a favorable settlement of a case in the Supreme Court. The judge I M Quddusi has been booked by the CBI on charges of corruption. Some other people including public servants have also been booked in the case. The allegations are that the judge and the other people involved hatched a conspiracy to settle a Medical Council of India (MCI) debarment against a private medical college. The CBI conducted raids today at various places including Delhi, Bhubaneswar and Lucknow including Greater Kailash residence of Justice (retd.) Quddusi.
However, the raids have not gone down well with the legal fraternity. The Odisha High Court Bar condemned the raid by CBI. According to the FIR, the case relates to a college that was debarred by the MCI. The college was managed by Prasad Education Trust, Lucknow and two people B P Yadav and Palash Yadav were pursuing the matter to get it resolved. The debarment was challenged in the Supreme Court earlier this year. The Supreme Court had directed the state government to look into the matter, but the debarment could not be lifted. This is when the two people approached Quddusi and a woman named Bhawana Pandey (co-accused) to get the matter settled.
