The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday carried out raids at several locations in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram and Chennai, including the residence of Karti Chidambaram, in connection with alleged criminal misconduct in grant of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval to a private firm during the UPA regime.
“The searches are related to alleged criminal misconduct in the grant of FIPB approval for investment in a private firm,” said a CBI official. is case, the CBI had earlier filed a charge sheet stating that it was probing the role of former Finance Minister and Karti ‘ s father P. Chidambaram.
While the CBI did not make it clear whether a separate case has been registered, the agency sources confirmed the searches at Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram and Chennai.
Reacting to the raids, former union finance minister P. Chidambaram alleged the government, with the CBI, was targeting him and his son. “They want to silence my voice and stop me from writing”, he said.
