Chhota Rajan on Monday was convicted by Special Judge Virender Kumar Goyal who also passed orders on conviction of three retired public servants — Jayashree Dattatray Rahate, Deepak Natvarlal Shah and Lalitha Lakshmanan – for helping Rajan to obtain a fake passport by cheating the Indian Government which can attract a maximum punishment of Life Imprisonment.
Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje aka Chhta Rajan wh is presently lodged in Tihar Jail appeared via Video Conference due to security reasons. The minimum punishment under this is 7 years. The court noted that Rajan was issued fake passports twice in the name of Mohan Kumar – once from Regional Passport Office, Bengaluru and then from Consulate General of India, Sydney, Australia. The specimen signatures on both the passports tallied with Rajan’s.
They were convicted of cheating, using as genuine a forged document, forgery for the purpose of cheating, forgery of valuable security or will, cheating by impersonation and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code and violating relevant provisions of the Passport Act
