After Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President Donald Trump and there were signs that the two countries are warming up to each other, China has expressed its anxieties over the development. The cozying up of the two countries has evoked strong reactions from China. The state controlled Chinese media said that New Delhi and Washington joining forces to counter Beijing would most probably lead to catastrophic results. An excerpt from an article published in China’s state-run newspaper, the Global Times read, “Washington and New Delhi share anxieties about China’s rise. In recent years, to ratchet up geopolitical pressure on China, the US has cozied up to India.”
The article further points out that India is not an ally of Unites States. It says that it would be disastrous for India if it acts as an outpost country in the US’ strategy to contain China. The article also says that India could become a pawn for the US in its game to counter China and if this happens, it will create unrest in South Asia. It may be recalled that President Trump has supported India’s objections to the new economic corridor, which is being built by China through Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
