In a bid to showcase its military might amidst rising confrontation with the Unites States, China has released a video footage that shows its military exercises using the advanced DF-16 medium-range ballistic missile. The DF-16 advanced ballistic missiles have a range of more than 1,000 km and could be used to target countries such as India, Japan and the United States. The DF-16 is as accurate as a cruise missile and has inbuilt systems that can penetrate enemy’s defensive firepower. China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) usually conducts its military exercises secretly, but due to the increased possibility of conflict with the United States, it seems that it is now showcasing its military might.
The military drills were carried out by China’s Rocket Force, which is a specialized army unit dedicated to handling a range of missiles in China’s military arsenal. The video showed footage of various drills such as chemical/biological attacks, disabling satellite reconnaissance, electronic jamming, etc. This is the third time that the DF-16 medium-range ballistic missiles have been shown in public. Experts say that China is preparing for a possible military conflict with the United States, as the Trump administration has taken a tough stand to China’s claims on the disputed South China Sea.
