Even as India and China continue their standoff over the border issue in Sikkim, China has said that it is willing to play a constructive role to help improve relations between India and Pakistan. The statement comes in the wake of the recent killing of Amarnath pilgrims in Kashmir. China said that the Kashmir issue has come to the attention of international community and it needs to be resolved. China admitted that both India and Pakistan are major players in South Asia, but the Kashmir issue has emerged as a major problem for peace in the region. India has always asserted that the Kashmir issue is a bilateral issue and it cannot involve any third party.
Speaking about the Kashmir issue, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said, “The conflict occurred near the Line of Control of Kashmir. This will not only harm the peace and stability of the two countries but also the peace and tranquility of the region. We hope the relevant sides can do more things that are conducive for peace and stability in the region and avoiding escalating the tensions and China is willing to play constructive role in improving relations between India and Pakistan.”
