In a statement reportedly made by China State TV, it has said that in case a war breaks out between India and China, armed motorized Chinese troops can enter Delhi within 48 hours and paratroopers within 10 hours. This information was revealed via a post tweeted by The International Spectator (@spectatorindex). The tweet said, ” CHINA: State TV says it would take country’s motorized troops 48 hours and its paratroops 10 hours to reach India’s capital if war broke out.” The International Spectator twitter account focuses on political, economic and military issues.
If the information is true, it shows the growing divide and hostility between the two countries, as China has been trying to undermine India’s position on several fronts. One of the most burning issues is China’s refusal to allow India access to the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). China has been using its Veto power to block India’s access to the premier Nuclear Group. Membership to the group would help India to strengthen its nuclear energy infrastructure and operations, in both civil and military domain.
China has also stopped UN efforts to designate Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) chief Maulana Masood Azhar as a terrorist. India has consistently demanded this status, as Masood has been involved in various terrorist attacks in India. Border issues are also an area of conflict, which flare up quite often between the two countries. The tweet has received mixed responses from Indian Twitterati, with some terming it as frivolous whereas others taking it up on a serious note.
