Have a taste for vegetables and eggs? Well, you might like them for their high nutritive content, but beware, as a recent Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed with the Delhi High Court has claimed that eggs and vegetables made from plastic are being imported from China and sold in Indian markets in huge quantities. The Delhi High Court has acknowledged the PIL and has directed the central government to examine the matter and submit its report.
In the plea, it has also been mentioned that action should be taken against people and entities that are involved in the import, storage and distribution of such fake eggs and vegetables. The PIL was heard by a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Anu Malhotra. After hearing the plea, the bench asked the central government to discuss the matter with authorities and file a report at the next hearing scheduled on July 19.
The PIL was filed by a social worker named Chand Jain. The PIL mentions that the government should take samples of such fake eggs and vegetables and examine its quality in order to protect the health of the general public. The petitioner’s counsel Sugriva Dubey said that these fake and inferior quality food items were being sold during the off season, primarily in metropolitan cities.
